MATTHIAS ZEHNDER, PROF. DR. MED. DENT., PhD

Matthias Zehnder was born 1969 in St. Gall, Switzerland. He graduated from the University of Bern School of Dental Medicine in 1994, where he received his doctoral degree in dentistry (Dr. med. dent.) in 1996. Subsequently, he worked in private practice and part-time at the Department of Oral Cell Biology, University of Bern School of Dental Medicine. He then was employed at the Department of Oral Biology and Periodontology, Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine, and subsequently was trained at Columbia University to become a certified endodontist. Matt completed a PhD at Turku University (Finland) in 2005, and has received a Docent title from the University of Zurich in 2007. Currently, he is the tenured head of the Division of Endodontology at the Clinic of Preventive Dentistry, Periodontology, and Cariology, University of Zurich. Matt’s main research interests are to develop dental biomaterials, diagnose pulpal disease using molecular markers, and to improve approaches to disinfect dental hard tissues. He won several awards for his research, such as the Hans Genet Award by the ESE, the Columbia University Division of Endodontics Alumni Achievement Award, and the Louis I. Grossman International Award. He is a former associate editor of the International Endodontic Journal, and current editor-in-chief of the Swiss Dental Journal.

Matthias Zehnder sa narodil v roku 1969 v St. Gallene, Švajčiarsku. V roku 1994 absolvoval štúdium zubného lekárstva na univerzite v Berne, kde v roku 1996 získal doktorský titul zo zubného lekárstva (Dr. med. Dent.). Neskôr pracoval v súkromnej praxi a na čiastočný úväzok na Katedre orálnej bunkovej biológie, na Univerzite v Berne, Škole zubného lekárstva. Následne bol zamestnaný na Katedre orálnej biológie a parodontológie, na Goldmanovej Škole zubného lekárstva na Bostonskej univerzite. Certifikačné endodontické štúdium absolvoval na  Kolumbijskej univerzite. Matt dokončil v roku 2005 doktorandské štúdium na univerzite v Turku (Fínsko) a titul docent získal na Univerzite v Zurichu v roku 2007. V súčasnosti je vedúcim oddelenia endodontológie na Klinike preventívnej stomatológie, parodontológie a kariológie  na Univerzite v Zürichu. Mattovými hlavnými záujmami v oblasti výskumu sú vývoj zubných biomateriálov, diagnostika pulpálneho ochorenia pomocou molekulárnych markerov a zdokonaľovanie prístupov k dezinfekcii tvrdých zubných tkanív. Za svoj výskum získal niekoľko ocenení, napríklad cenu Hansa Geneta od ESE, cenu Kolumbijskej univerzity v odbor endodoncia  pre absolvenstov “Alumni Achievement Award „ a medzinárodnú cenu Louisa I. Grossmana. Je bývalým zástupcom šéfredaktora International Endodontic Journal a súčasným šéfredaktorom Swiss Dental Journal.
